Post Oracle Application Server Strategy

In yesterday’s conference on the Oracle/Sun merger (which was very informative and well done IMHO), the strategy around the middleware / tools space was laid out.  There are a series of web casts ALREADY available on the subject (see below).  I thought I’d point them out for any followers who are interested in the direction of things.  It is notable how prevalent GlassFish will be featured in the product bundles (not hidden away in a dark room to be forgotten as some people thought it would be).
Sun offerings including the Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server, Sun Java System Web Server, Sun Java System Web Proxy Server, and Java HotSpot Virtual Machine complement and extend the existing product line-up to increase the breadth and depth of Oracle's foundational middleware software.

In summary, the combination of Oracle's application server technologies and Sun means:

  • GlassFish continues as the Java EE reference implementation
  • GlassFish Server included in every Oracle WebLogic Server offering
  • Sun Java System Web Server part of new Oracle Web Tier offering
