FYI,
I went last week to a presentation by the vendor. It was very interesting to hear why their technology can be so much faster than 'traditional' BI. Now I know. ![]() I can't seem to post it to the forum, but I have a copy I can send anyone interested. Just email me at sbennett@tbig.net.au. The only question I now have is: Why aren't more people using this? Steve

I think first reason for not adopting the BI appliance for many companies is fear of the "unknown" as well as "non traditional" approach, kind of I don't want to play by myself or start something new which not that many people know about. No(or maybe handful) resources in the market who know about Netezza.
I attended one of the session for Netezza and I believe that it is a matter of time until the companies start adopting these technologies. The obvious reason is cost (total cost of ownership) and faster than traditional solution. The most interesting thing I liked about Netezza was the reduction of Database administration effort. Yet to be verified, but the claim of easy implementation with no indexes (I think!) and no major work to partition database, tablespace, memory and all the rest of time consuming activities (in traditional DB like Oracle) will be gone(I think!). I would like to hear from a client in Australia who implemented Netezza. Or if we can have a real comparison between Netezza and a traditional DW suite. That will be great. |

Interesting thread. I'm just a humble Cognos user and I've been in the industry for several years - but I've never met anyone directly involved in the use of any BI appliance. I've never even heard of anyone doing this in Aust or NZ.
Have I led too sheltered a life? Calling all Neteeza users! Do you exist in this universe ![]() (apologies to BOBJ universe designers!)

Hi Jane,
So no replies to your call to Neteeza users to identify themselves? Does that mean there are none? Or are these forums still too small? I spoke to Mark, one of the founders of the CORTEX, and he explained that membership is still building and that it "is still early days." I hope not as I find it pretty difficult getting contact with local BI people. I'll keep reading if people keep posting! Doug A former BOBJ Universe Designer

That's right Doug - the CORTEX is in beta mode as we trial the concept. We are adding new forums and functions each month.
Over 150 people have now registered so keep on coming back and I for one will keep posting! We hope to go gold beofre Christmas 2008 and Release 1.0 of the CORTEX should be live in the New Year - but maybe not January 1st. We are planning on having a hangover that day
