Cutbacks

Posted 28th October 2008 at 07:25 PM by Steve Bennett (Random Intelligence)

I'm getting nervous about the BI/DWH/Analytics job market! I am getting a marked increase in people contacting me directly for new contracts. Is this a trend? Are people finding it harder to get work in our field?

CBA seems headed for cutbacks. An Australian IT article today is cross-posted here.

I know a very capable DWH person with 20 years solid experience who has been looking for several weeks.

What do other people think? Is it tougher out there?...

Dw2.0 asia pacific summit

Posted 23rd October 2008 at 09:35 AM by Steve Bennett (Random Intelligence)

Went to the DW2.0 ASIA PACIFIC SUMMIT yesterday and was pleased to see a really good turnout for the event.

I heard from several people that someone from the ATO gave an interesting presentation on their MDM capability. Sorry I missed it.

I was also able to catchup with several old colleagues which is always good. In these times of market turmoil its good to talk to old faces and compare stories!

I was there for:

Spooky

Posted 20th October 2008 at 12:47 PM by Steve Bennett (Random Intelligence)

Read this fictitious letter from a frustrated IT manager. Written in 1997, isn't this a little depressing? I don't know about everyone else but I still expect to receive this sort of letter today, over 10 years later. OK so maybe not from the IT Manager, but from a C** level executive. Have we really made so little progress?!

The Microsoft Juggernaut Rolls Into Town

Posted 29th November 2007 at 01:13 PM by Steve Bennett (Random Intelligence)

I am at today's Business Intelligence Summit 2007 in Sydney. This morning's sessions rolled out the big guns with Redmond's global BI and Product Manager heads giving presentations. They were good.

Overall I have been impressed with PerformancePoint 2007 - or MOSS as they like to call it plus their USP of tight Office integration. Seems to have functionality comparable with the more traditional BI vendor offerings. MSFT claims that their beta testing of MOSS is bigger than the installed...
