Thumbs up Designing Effective Analytics and BI Applications

Anyone who has been involved with a reporting, BI or analytics project knows the feeling of disappointment when, after all the analysis, design and development is complete no one uses it.

Acceptance of BI solutions relies on effective design which can be tested by asking questions like;
  • Do charts and graphs successfully communicate their intended meaning?
  • is the system/interface easy and intuitive to use
  • Does the application give the user any ability they didn't have before (or is it easier and quicker to use excel)

The following site is a good source of information about effective information design - the Graph Design I.Q. Test is particulary illuminating. It's definitely worth a look for anyone involved in the development of BI front ends, dashboards, reports etc.

Thumbs up Useful Link

Thanks for the link - I like the Graph Design I.Q. Test as well.

Might even give it to my reporting team.
