| Analytic Process The process you go through to analyse a problem and make a decision: - Define the Problem
- Generate Hypotheses
- Determine information needs & gather information (often from a data warehouse)
- Evaluate sources (by running reports online, identify exceptions)
- Evaluate (Test) Hypotheses (by running more reports online, questioning the results and doing root cause analysis [Seek to understand the “why” or root causes behind the identified exceptions])
- Peer Review to check that the result is valuable. Is it fit for purpose? Is the effort worth the benefit?
- If you regularly need to analyse the same or similar problems then you need to put the report into ‘production’ and package it with additional information about how it works, any known issues, its purpose, etc.
- Get user feedback and evaluate results by tracking the decisions made based on the analysis.
- Use this knowledge to improve the hypotheses, sources, and process.
