STR introduces Self-Service Business Intelligence Platform

Space-Time Research, the leader in Self-Service Business Intelligence for government, has announced the release of its SuperSTAR Self-Service Platform and the SuperVIEW interactive web publishing solution. The SuperSTAR Platform makes using data for statistics easier and safer for users from analysts and statisticians accessing large complex microdata to the public wanting quick interesting visualizations.

STR’s SuperSTAR solution is used by some of the world’s leading National Statistics Offices (NSO’s) such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the UK Office of National Statistics, and the US Bureau of Census to collect, analyse and share data. “These organizations have challenging information service requirements,” said Don McDougall, CEO of STR. “They must provide complete, reliable data and disclosure control that ensures privacy and confidentiality. The new SuperSTAR Platform includes a Data Control Application Programming Interface (API) that provides a ‘plug and play’ approach to privacy and confidentiality mechanisms. The API allows use of STR integrated techniques, accepted protection and confidentiality products, or custom confidentiality rules. These techniques and rules are applied to ad-hoc queries on unit record and aggregate data when a request for information is processed. “The challenge in providing information about people is not just one of visualization,” said Don McIntosh, Product Director at STR. “We have a serious responsibility to support our customers’ duty to publish information about citizens, students, patients, and customers without disclosing personally identifiable information and other sensitive data. STR’s emphasis on techniques such a field level security, authentication, audit trails, as well as the new data control API, is unique.” SuperSTAR Business Intelligence provides confidentialized information that is presented to users via desk top or web-based analytics clients. Analysts and statisticians can use the well respected SuperCROSS for sophisticated tabulations of large, complex data sets. Researchers and subject experts can use the new version of SuperWEB optimized for communication and dissemination of integrated tables, charts, graphs, and maps.

A new SuperVIEW visualization capability is based on a Data Access API that enables interactive web publication and visualization. SuperVIEW makes it easier for organizations to provide data and information in formats specific to topical communities and the public. A criminology research organization might provide drug use data to the law enforcement community differently that a medical institute would provide information to its members. Both require easier and safer ways to share and visualize data.

STR’s platform meets the growing demand for self-service information access from users who are no longer satisfied with standard reports and want the capability to ask their own questions and use the results to feed various visualization tools. “With the new SuperSTAR platform and SuperVIEW visualization, our customers have available information discovery capabilities that allow easier, safer, informed decisions,” said McDougall.

The SuperSTAR Platform has been tested with select customers and is generally available now.

Space-Time Research Enhances Organization
Promotions and hires strengthen STR team

Space-Time Research Pty Ltd (STR) – the global leader in Self-Service Business Intelligence solutions for government – has announced new appointments for their Australian operation.

Mark Humphreys has been promoted to Director of Sales for Australia and New Zealand. Mark previously held positions leading field marketing and global Pre-Sales Support.

Mark joined STR in January 2007. Prior to STR he held technical sales positions in GE Energy and Smallworld, a Geographical Information Systems software company. In his new role, Mark will focus on growing STR’s established presence in the Australia and New Zealand government BI market. Humphreys comments “We are finding that organizations that need to analyze and share information identify with our self-service business intelligence message. STR’s analytics, self-service Business Intelligence and web visualization deliver a unique solution. Simon Jenkins has been appointed as Product Manager. Simon joins STR from Goldman Sachs JBWere and has over 15 years experience working with a variety of business intelligence technologies. In his new role Simon will work closely with customers to ensure an understanding of their requirements to build a product roadmap product communication.

Byron Kyriakides has been appointed as Partner Manager for Australia, New Zealand and S.E. Asia. Byron previously held the positions as a solutions consultant and sales engineer for STR. “Expansion of the STR partnership program is key to STR’s growth and I am excited to be responsible for this aggressive program in Australia, New Zealand” said Kyriakides

Eva Holl joined STR Professional Services after working in the European Central Bank for the past 8 years. Eva brings to STR extensive statistical Information systems experience with the collection, storage and dissemination of statistical data and metadata.

Middle East contract for Melbourne BI company

Space-Time Research, a small Melbourne business intelligence solutions company, has snared a contract which will see its SuperSTAR analysis and dissemination software implemented by the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to allow research and public use of healthcare data about diseases such as congenital heart defect and diabetes.

The company, which is based in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Richmond, says its solution will allow researchers to gain insights from analysis of trends from confidentialised microdata records, and that privacy protected data can be used by the hospital to share data with the public and promote awareness and understanding of disease information that could affect their lives.

According to a statement from SuperSTAR, the Registries Core Facility Group within the department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Scientific Computing at the King Faisal hospital has the mission to provide high quality disease registries, analysis and administration of the registry information, and leadership in establishing the registries in collaboration with other health organizations in the region, and that researcher analysis of the registry data is expected to lead to better understanding of the cause and effects of diseases like diabetes which is a growing concern worldwide and within the Kingdom.

Dr. Sultan Al-Sedairy, executive director of the Research Center at KFSH&RC said “my vision is to have a medium that will allow public access to visualizations of analyses that promote health care education. We want to understand the actions that affect the control measures associated with the spread of disease.”
