Post Exhibiting at TDWI AND Celebrating the completion of the first technology preview of

The team is very happy to announce the completion of the first technology preview for SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse! Our new, massively scalable data warehousing solution is unique because it offers hardware flexibility with configurations from the major hardware vendors - Bull, Dell, EMC, HP and IBM. Parallel Data Warehouse also offers customers very high scalability through a MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) architecture, low total cost of ownership and rich business intelligence experience through integration with Microsoft BI technologies.

10 customers, from 7 industries participated in the first technology preview. One of those customers, First Premier Bankcard, realized up to 300 percent improvement in loading speeds and 70 times improvement in query performance when compared to existing scale up data warehouses. Outstanding results!

We’re not done yet though! We are now taking customer nominations for the second technology preview as well as the Technology Adoption Program (TAP). For more information on the TAP, email mdsontap@microsoft.com. Parallel Data Warehouse availability is currently planned for the first half of calendar year 2010.

SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse 2.0

In November 2009, we released Fast Track Data Warehouse version 2.0. This release focuses on the latest hardware and processor innovations with new reference architectures from AMC, Bull, Dell, EMC, HP, IBM and Intel. Fast Track 2.0 utilizes the Symmetric Multi Processing (SMP) model, which allows the warehouse to scale to tens of terabytes and as those data storage needs grow, migrating to Parallel Data Warehouse is even easier.

We are seeing remarkable worldwide adoption of Fast Track with customers in more than 10 countries including the US, UK, France, Germany and S. Korea. Those customers come from over 10 industries including telecommunications, retail, healthcare, travel, media & entertainment. In some cases, Fast Track Data Warehouse is helping customers reduce their DW costs by over 50% without compromising on performance and scalability.
