HR tech people’s focus is on metrics and analytics: survey

The first CedarCrestone Asia Pacific HR Systems Survey uncovers major HR technology trends in the region

SINGAPORE, 14 JANUARY 2009 - The number one business initiative for Asia Pacific HR (human resources) technology people is a focus on metrics and analytics, whether in the form of developing a metrics strategy, integrating data sources, or implementing business intelligence applications to enable metrics-based management.

This is according to the first CedarCrestone Asia Pacific HR Systems Survey in which 277 organisations representing more than two million employees in the region participated. The survey, until 2008, covered North American organisations, with just 10 per cent to 15 per cent from Europe, Asia, and Australia. This year CedarCrestone, with the support of Oracle Corporation, also covered Asia Pacific countries such as Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, and Taiwan.

Major findings

Aligning employee performance with organisational goals (including implementing a performance management application) and business process improvements are also top initiatives, the survey found.

The survey also found that self-service and moving to an HR service centre approach enables organisations to serve more employees with their HR staff. It discovered that an integrated talent management approach enables organisations to achieve a lower total cost of ownership.

Another interesting finding of the study is that talent management and business intelligence applications matter. “Those organisations that have these applications report higher financial performance than those without,” the survey notes.

Among technologies, Web 2.0 and Oracle’s Human Capital Management (HCM) software emerged with significant roles.

“Web 2.0 is at the innovator stage among Asia Pacific respondents, but early adopters worldwide are achieving early positive advantage of double the sales growth of those without these technologies,” the survey highlighted.

CedarCrestone also said that Oracle’s HCM software suites (PeopleSoft Enterprise and Oracle E-Business Suite) were the top choices of Asia Pacific organisations for administrative, service delivery, talent management, and business intelligence applications.
