| Administrator | One More Independent Bites The Dust The CORTEX is about to launch and as usual the BI industry is not sleeping: SAP and Business Objects have agreed to become one. The public plan is for BOBJ to become an independent business unit under SAP. My question - to kick-off discussions on the CORTEX - is to ask: What does this mean to the many BOBJ users in Australia? How does this impact the future of BOBJ products? Does this mean anything to the BOBJ specialists out there? Why has SAP succeeded where so many others (IBM, HP, etc.??) apparently failed? So I know the CORTEX is only just starting, but if anyone joins and has some insights, then please jump-in and make a comment! Last edited by admin; 1st November 2007 at 11:07 AM. ![]() | I think SAP has a large user base and its reporting suite wasnt crash hot, so they have a large base to sell business objects into. I dont think it will make any difference to users in Australia as BO will continue to support and develop there product. Maybe I will be cynical and say the price of BO will go up. ![]() Quote:

| Administrator | Jees ... None of the 'major' BI platforms is cheap at the moment. I really hope the price comes down - not up! Of course, I wouldn't mind SAP users paying more: they are used to it I hear, and maybe they can subsidize BOBJ for the rest of us!! |

| Member | I have just revisited Business Object's online community site and got some value out of it. I liked the example visualisations they are posting. All based on xcelcius of course but if you accept the extra complexity in administration, then these show you what is possible. Check it out.

For those who don't know, Swivel's site allows you to combine your data with publically available data sources and then produce a gorgeous range of visualisations. It's the power of the visualisation tool combined with public and private data that makes this site really interesting in my opinion. Let's hope this is the sign of things to come!
